"The product can only be marketable if it is attractive to the consumer i.e. the traditional skill is adapted and designed to suit contemporary tastes and needs. Design does not mean making pretty patterns. It is matching technique with a function. "

Soft Furnishings

It is the second largest category of goods that the Dastkar Craft Shop stocks. The soft furnishings include hand woven rugs – throws/durries, table cloths, cushion covers, bed covers, wall hangings, runners, tea cosy, oven gloves, toaster covers, bolster covers, and torans. The textiles include cotton, mushroo, wool, silk, tussar, jute, organdy. These furnishings accentuate the Indian home, as they are bright, some fairly elaborate using traditional motifs. The embellishments include mirror work, shells, embroideries, patchwork, block print and kalamkari work.
